Mentoring Workshop
The LACEA Mentoring Workshop is aimed at providing feedback and advice to PhD Candidates from Latin American universities. The objective is to provide the PhD students with a unique opportunity to promote their work in a highly demanding setting and thus improve the quality of their work. Each selected candidate will receive comments from a senior scholar in their field. The senior scholar will provide constructive feedback on the content of the paper as well as publication advice.
The Mentoring Workshop will take the form of parallel sessions and a 30-minute one-on-one session with the assigned senior scholar. The parallel sessions are open to LACEA participants.
The scientific committee conformed by Rodrigo Ceni (Iecon, UdelaR), Fernando Borraz (Decon, UdelaR), Laura Alfaro (Harvard) and Verónica Frisancho (CAF) selected nine PhD Candidates based on the quality of the applications with consideration given to field and candidate diversity, as well as an appropriate student-senior scholar fit.

Travelling to Montevideo
Montevideo is capital of Uruguay and also the southernmost capital city in the Americas. Montevideo is known as one of Latin America's safest cities, as well as South America's highest-ranking city for quality of living.
Several airlines have direct flights to Montevideo.
Please check the document below for direct flights and frequencies.
On your arrival at Carrasco airport, you can take a taxi to your hotel in Montevideo. Taxis are parked outside as you exit the airport. It will take between 30 and 40 minutes to reach your hotel. We advise you to request the driver to take you along the "rambla" (see promenade) to enjoy the view of the river "Río de la Plata". The cost of the transfer is 2000 Uruguayan pesos (aprox USD 55).
Click here for more information on taxis.
Temperature in November ranges between 20°C and 24°C Celsius during the day but it can get cooler in the evening up to 15°C.
Montevideo is a fairly safe city compared to other cities in Latin America, but basic precautions are recommended.
Call For Papers
Submissions are invited in the form of complete papers, and should be sent electronically by June 10, 2024 through the conference website. For each submission, at least one author must be a member of either LACEA or the Econometric Society. A person can submit only one paper, although they can be co-authors in papers submitted by others.
We encourage submissions from both established researchers and young scholars, and we particularly welcome papers from researchers based in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This year we are launching a special call for a workshop and mentoring session for PhD students at Latin American universities. Please refer to the call below on this site.
